  • Your CV is the core of your application. In some cases, it will be the only document that the HR officer reads.
  • When applying for a work placement, a one page CV should be enough. Certainly no more than two pages! Focus on the facts and skills that are relevant to the opening.
  • Avoid gaps in your CV. HR officers always find that suspicious. At best, they will ask you in for an interview afterwards; at worst, they will simply put a disjointed CV to the side.

Here is some advice that may help you in writing an eye-catching curriculum vitae (CV)

  • Decide on your objective before writing your CV:

Your objective represents the bull’s-eye target for your CV, so take the time to clearly formulate it.

  • Consider your CV as a tool for self-promotion:

Use your CV to sell yourself.

General remarks for Germany:

Document requirements differ from one industry to the next, and minor “eccentricities” are thoroughly accepted. However, the following rules do apply:

1. Read the listing carefully. Line by line. Make sure your application clearly refers to the listing. Submit the requested documents and answer any questions asked. No more, no less.

2. Submit your documents in the requested language (in case of doubt, in the language of the listing).

3. Provide any requested certificates.
